Religion and Urbanity

Reciprocal Formations

This blog considers the mutual formation of urbanity and religion from antiquity to the present. It focuses on Mediterranean cities of the ancient world, early modern political and religious centres and modern Indian towns, but is also open to more wide-ranging, theoretical considerations. The blog is connected to the research group “Religion and Urbanity”, based at the Max-Weber-Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies at the University of Erfurt, Germany.
