Vegetarian restaurants, clubs where like-minded people meet to exchange opinions concerning their meatless diet, health food stores with an alternative food supply: 130 years before the current Veggie boom Vienna was once the scene of this diet trends. In 1880 the first vegetarian restaurant opened in Vienna, a few years later it had become a meeting place for a very diverse scene. To portrait and analyze this colorful movement is the goal of the research project "The vegetarian movement in Vienna 1870-1938" (funded by the City of Vienna).

Vegetarische Restaurants, Vereine, in denen sich Gleichgesinnte über fleischlose Ernährung austauschen, Reformhäuser mit einem alternativen Lebensmittelangebot: 130 Jahre vor dem aktuellen Veggie-Boom war Wien schon einmal Schauplatz dieses Ernährungstrends. Um 1880 eröffnete das erste vegetarische Restaurant in Wien, wenige Jahre später war es zum Treffpunkt einer sehr vielfältigen Szene geworden. Diese bunte Bewegung darzustellen und zu analysieren ist das Ziel des von der Stadt Wien geförderten Forschungsprojekt "Die Wiener Vegetarier/innen-Bewegung 1870-1938" über das im Blog laufend berichtet wird.
