Open Jerusalem

Opening Jerusalem Archives: for a connected history of “citadinité” in the Holy City (1840-1940)

The ERC Project “Open-Jerusalem” (2014-2019), conceived and coordinated by Vincent Lemire (Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée), is a groundbreaking and interdisciplinary project aiming to radically shift the paradigm of research devoted to the history of the Holy City. Truly and enduringly decompartmentalizing Jerusalem’s historiographies means finding ways of opening up and interconnecting its archives, which is central to this new research project. "Open-Jerusalem" is a community of historians working on Jerusalem as “common ground”: a shared historiographic and archival forum and a tool for exchanging, and especially correlating data.
